Ft. Benning’s Col. Johnson relinquishes command | News
FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM)- The Sledgehammer Brigade at Fort Benning is getting ready for a big change.
Commander of the 3rd Brigade Colonel Johnnie Johnson Jr. is getting ready to relinquish his command.
He took some time to speak with us about his time at Fort Benning and how bittersweet this transition will be.
Col. Johnson tells us he is proud of his soldiers, and no matter what changes they face, he is sure they will be successful.
He also says the continuous support from the community is something he appreciates and will miss.
"I really can't say enough about the community, that's Fort Benning and Columbus, as well, and the local surrounding towns and cities," said Col. Johnson. "They love the brigade and we love them, and it's been great to be a part of this community - they bend over backwards for us to make sure that the soldiers and families have what they need to do our job each and every day."
Right after Col. Johnson's interview with us, he was surprised with a gift. Part of his team presented him with a compilation of all of his media appearances and achievements.
His last day will be Friday May 17.
