Area businesses learn impact of DoD's budget reductions

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- The Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Regional Defense Summit today at the National Infantry Museum.

The summit's goal is to discuss the Department of Defense's budget reductions with the business community.

"Fort Benning is the largest employer in our region and a great community partner," said Mike Gaymon, President and C.E.O. of the Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce. "Our Chamber is committed to ensuring that our region has prepared for the impact of the DoD budget process."

Federal, state and locally elected delegates from the 10-county bi-state region will hear presentations on Fort Benning's mission, land use, the Army'senvironmental impact, technology and veterans' healthcare.
