Fort Benning launches new post newspaper | Military
The Maneuver Center of Excellence Public Affairs Office will host an open house to celebrate the debut of "One Force, One Fight, One Publication" from 9-11 a.m. April 10 in Room 1400 of McGinnis-Wickam Hall.
The Bayonet was first published on Sept. 17, 1942 and was founded by Maynard Ashworth. Ashworth was assigned to the Public Affairs Office at what was then the U.S. Army Infantry Center. The paper was named by 1st Lt. Henry T. Gayley.
It has been Fort Benning's only continuously published weekly newspaper since its inaugural edition. It was recently awarded first place in the Maj. Gen. Keith L. Ware Public Affairs Competition, recognizing The Bayonet as the best metro format newspaper throughout the Army.
The Bayonet is published weekly on Wednesdays and is widely available in the Tri-Community area.
The public is invited to attend the open house.
