More combat-related jobs for women in the Army

FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM)- The Army has announced, they are going to open thousands of combat-related jobs for women in the military.

News Leader 9 spoke with four women have more than three decades of service between them. Through the years they have rose through the ranks, not letting their gender be an excuse. Finally, they say, they are going to get recognized.

Georgia Power customers to save at least $100 a year

(WTVM)- If
you are a Georgia Power customer, expect to see a present on your next billing
statement. The Public Service Commission recently approved a rate
reduction.  

The average customer who uses about 1,000 kilowatt hours will see about an $8
price break each month.  The change in price is due to a reduction in cost
to generate electricity. 

"With so much bad news surfacing these days, it is nice to be able to say
your summer electric rates won't be quite as high," says Commission

FORT BENNING, GA - A beloved monument has finally made its way to the new Infantry Museum after two years of hard work.

The monument was originally at the old museum on main post and was stuck there after it closed for the new Infantry Museum.

Sullivan Cup kicks off at Fort Benning

FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM)- The first Sullivan Cup competition kicked off Monday at Fort Benning with the maintenance challenge.

Fifteen Armor crews had the task of changing a broken track on a M-1 Abrams tank. There were a lot of hammering, tightening, and lifting tank tracks.

The crew made up of four soldiers had to change out an eight block section of track weighing 700 pounds.  Although the track looks like a Lego, they don't just snap together. Staff Sergeant Cory Nania says it's not a quick or easy task but it is a team effort.

Army shotgun shooter wins gold at World Cup

FORT BENNING, GA - Staff Sgt. Josh Richmond, U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, added another milestone to an already stellar 2012, winning a gold medal in Men’s Double Trap at the Lonato (Italy) World Cup May 5.  

This title, his second medal-winning performance in as many World Cup competitions this year, comes just two weeks after the birth of his and wife Scharri’s second son, Beaux. With two World Cup medals and a new baby boy, it is safe to say 2012 can be classified as a great year.

US Secretary of Defense visits Fort Benning, addresses troops

FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM)- U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta was spotted at Fort Benning early Friday as he prepared to address service members who are preparing for deployment. 

Friday afternoon he spoke to leaders and soldiers from the 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at McGinnis-Wickam Hall.
